How glorious is it, that when we were still enemies of God, He made the greatest sacrifice He possibly could, for those that hated Him? Contrarily, how hypocritical is it of us, that when we should fail our own standards of holiness, we would look at ourselves with contempt, wishing for punishment on ourselves when the All-Powerful Creator God of the Universe, who is the standard of grace and justice, looks at us and declares mercy? What arrogance is this that we would hold ourselves judge over ourselves while the ultimate judge looks at us and declares innocence? My call to those who suffer from being overly self-critical: forgive yourself. Give yourself grace. Perfection is unobtainable and thus we needed a savior. If you fail your brother or sister, do what you can to make it right, but do not declare yourself guilty before the King when He has decided otherwise.
“ For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin. Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.” – Hebrews 4:15-16
